Product description
Oil on canvas, work by noted artist Anna Mes
Anna Mes (Koog aan de Zaan, 1935) mainly creates large abstract works that stand out because the color fields are connected like a patchwork quilt. In these color fields one encounters a lively imagery of surreal signs, notches and remnants of North Holland landscapes and buildings. Originally a textile designer, she has mastered many disciplines, including gouache. Mes' gouache works are much smaller and introverted than her expressive canvases.
Mes gets her inspiration, among other things, from her walks along the Kamperduin beach near Alkmaar. During these walks along the coastline, she studies the light and the beauty of colors. In her compositions, that northern light returns again and again, with a bright overexposed color scheme that almost looks Scandinavian. Not surprising, since she spent considerable time in Sweden. The creation of the paintings and work on paper occurs in small steps. Mes states, ''Everything revolves around feeling and order. I am constantly ordering, nothing but ordering. And that's how I try to make things whole. My sadness, my drama, my love is in the landscape I look at. You can see from my work what is going on in me. My canvases are not separate from my life.''
