Andy Warhol (1928-1987) was an American artist, film director and author. He also worked as a music producer and actor. From his background and experience in applied art, Warhol was one of the protagonists of pop art in the United States in the 1950s and 1960s. Warhol is best known for his 'flat' and high-contrast paintings and serigraphs of packaged products and everyday objects, as well as for his stylized portraits of 20th-century celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe, Mick Jagger, Grace Jones and others
