Product description
This is a classic pendant light by Carl Thore for Granhaga Metallindustri, Sweden early 1970s. It is constructed by two aluminum shades connected to a silver and orange reflector ring in the centre. The light gives a wide soft glow downwards as well as a decorative effect along the reflector ring. This lamp has been taken apart, cleaned up and the larger low shade has been resprayed with several coats of sand brown matte lacquer. The top shade is left in original copper colored brushed aluminum. It has been reassembled with new screws and bolts, a new E27 shiny metal light bulb socket and a new white textile cable. Designers label still intact. This is a restored light from the 1970s and small imperfections will be found at close inspection. The plastic anti glare grid on the underside has a few marks from heat as can be seen in the last photo. The diameter is 40 cm and hight 20 cm. It takes a standard E27 lightbulb. The real name of the designer known as Carl Thore was Sigurd Lindkvist, and he was born in 1916 in Åmal in Sweden’s Dalsland. After working for a lighting firm called Luko, in 1961 Lindkvist joined Granhaga Metallindustri, for whom he designed lights and was also head of sales, remaining with the company until he retired in around 1981. Lindkvist adopted the pseudonym Carl Thore for his Granhaga light designs on the spur of the moment when he was presenting the lights to a client who asked the identity of the designer. “Carl Thore,” Lindkvist blurted out, these being his two middle names.
This lamp is partly repainted so the surface is good but you can tell it is a lamp from the 1970s.
