This is a Czechoslovak catalogue coctail armchair No.24-23, designed by František Jirák for Tatra Nabytok, in former Czechoslovakia in the 1960´s. Following the enormous success in the Czechoslovak pavilion at the Brussels Expo 58, the design of this No.24-23 chair are an exquisite example of the EXPO 58' - or so-called 1960's Brussel's style*.
The chair has a label documenting the originality of this catagued model.
*“Brussels Style” originates from the overwhelming success of Czechoslovakian design in the Expo 58 held in Brussels, where the CZ pavilion won the highest prize, the Golden Star and 13 other major awards. Although the CZ exhibition was under the influence of the official state communist propaganda, Expo 58' represents a major breakthrough of the Czechoslovakian culture in the West. The Brussel style is therefore a valuable up-to-date timeless design, inspired by Scandinavian style in simple in details and typical with crafting a bentwood, a Czechoslovak tradition of furniture manufacturing.
The armchair feature bent beechwood armrests in their original vintage condition with patina, details described below.
