Designers: Thomas Walter (Toon) de Wit (1909-1991) and Martinus Christianus (Martien) de Wit (1912-1985) The brothers started a furniture factory in Schiedam and competed with the much better known contemporary Willem Hendrik Gispen . Toon learned the trade from Gispen himself, where he was in the design department in the 1930s. Immediately after the war, Toon decided to start his own business together with his brother Martien. Toon drew and Martien was the technical man. Marketing and advertising were not important to them; a good chair sells itself, was their motto. Partly because of this, Gispen's designs became much better known than those of the De Wit Brothers.
