very sturdy sturdy chairs, 4 pieces. Matt oiled. Mukwa Originals are chairs and tables made in Zambia by Moses Samulesu, designed by Piet Hein Eek. Mukwa is a Zambian wood species very suitable for making furniture. Piet Hein Eek who has become world famous with his furniture made from scrap wood, created a design specifically for production in Zambia. It had to be a design that could be made well with the available materials by disabled people in Solwesi and Piet Hein succeeded well. Hugo Timmermans, whose cradle stood in Mwinilunga in Zambia, has taught Moses and other disabled colleagues how to manufacture these chairs so that they meet the quality requirements of the Dutch market. They have their workshop at the Holland Shopping Centre in Solwezi. For every chair sold, a Mukwa tree is planted. This contributes to local awareness of the importance of the environment.
One seat has a small round stain, see photo. I think it can be removed well. They are possibly good to sand. robust wood.
