Product description
4 S34 "cantilever" armchairs by MART STAM by LINEA VEAM, in very good condition (very slight traces of use). Made in Italy, they are upholstered in black leather and the tubular structure is in chromed steel. Mart Stam (1899-1986) was a Dutch architect, urban planner and designer. In 1925, he invented the cantilever chair, which is cantilevered and therefore dependent on the physical properties of the materials from which it is made. This pioneering form remains an important example of twentieth-century design. Another great creator of cantilever chairs was Hungarian designer Marcel Breuer. Ludwig Mies van der Rohe became aware of Stam's work on chair design and shared it with Marcel Breuer, leading the two designers to propose a whole variation on the theme of this tubular chair. In the late 1920s, Breuer and Stam went to court in Germany, each claiming to be the inventor of the basic principle of the cantilever chair, and Stam won.
Very slight traces of use.
