Ingmar Relling (1920-2002) was a dedicated designer renowned for his creation of functional furniture designs throughout his extensive career. He commenced his professional journey at the Rastad & Relling design studio in 1947 before venturing out to establish his studio in Sykkylven by 1950.
Today, Relling is celebrated as one of the preeminent figures of the golden age of Scandinavian Design. His designs embody principles of simplicity, minimalism, elegance, and unwavering quality.
In 1965, Relling achieved a milestone with his seminal creation: the Siesta chair. This masterpiece garnered him top honors at the Industry Council for Furniture and Furnishing Industry Chair competition that same year. Notably, even the White House boasted furnishings featuring Relling’s iconic Siesta chair. Today, the Siesta chair remains a globally acclaimed classic and a symbol of Norwegian design excellence.
