Gilles Derain, french designer born in 1944 and professionally grown in trade of arts and modernism. He has been among the first to discover and study the UAM (Union des artistes modernes) a movement active between 1928 and 1958 that then merged into the International Modern Movement.
Art director and co-founder of Lumen Center at the end of the Seventies. He designed MCP lamp (Merci Chareau Pierre) in 1979. Litteraly meaning Thanks Pierre Chareau (in honor of a small T-bench or stool from Pierre Chareau made in 1927. It represented an enormous commercial success.
For this reason it was included in the permanent collection of the museum of decorative arts of Montreal. Today Derain creates lamps, pieces of furniture, carpets, jewels.
