After graduating from the Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1953, he designed the Japanese Pavilion for the Milan Triennale. Over the next ten years he worked closely with Dino Gavina. He later collaborated with B&B Italia, Simon and Knoll, cleverly combining Western and Japanese aesthetics.
