Product description
The Saarinen Model 72 dining chair, a design classic, is a product of furniture manufacturer Knoll International. This iconic chair is a collaboration between renowned Finnish-American architect and designer Eero Saarinen and Knoll International, a company with a rich history of producing some of the most influential and enduring pieces of modern furniture.
The Model 72 dining chair, introduced in 1949 as part of Saarinen's "Pedestal Collection," exemplifies Saarinen's innovative approach to design, characterized by a focus on simplicity and functionality. One of the striking features of this chair is its single, slender pedestal base, mostly made of cast aluminum, which offers both stability and a modern aesthetic touch. The seat shell of the chair, made of molded fiberglass, has been completely reupholstered with a high-end (mostly) wool fabric. The interior is also completely covered with new foam.
Eero Saarinen was a Finnish-American architect and furniture designer best known for designing the now TWA Flight Center in New York City and the Womb Chair (designed in 1947). Knoll took all Saarinen chairs into production and became very successful internationally.
The signs of use on the frame are appropriate for the age of the chair. Please note that one of the chair legs is slightly more forward, due to an old kink in the frame (see photo).
