Wohlert studied architecture at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, where he was trained by renowned architects such as Kay Fisker and Steen Eiler Rasmussen. After graduating in 1944, he worked as a freelance architect before joining Vilhelm Lauritzen's architectural practice. One of Wohlert's best-known projects is the design of the Royal Danish Library in Copenhagen, which he completed in collaboration with Danish architect Jørgen Bo in 1999. He is also known for the design of the "OW149 Colonial" chair in 1949, which was produced by Danish furniture manufacturer Carl Hansen & Søn. Wohlert received numerous awards for his work throughout his career, including the Eckersberg Prize in 1950 and the C.F. Hansen Prize in 1999. He died on his 87th birthday in 2007.
