Born in Ixelles, Belgium, Wabbes studied interior architecture at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels before embarking on a career as a freelance designer. Early in his career, he worked for renowned furniture companies such as Le Mobilier Universel and De Coene Frères. His designs are characterized by clean, modern lines, high-quality materials and attention to detail. He is particularly well known for his lighting fixtures, which are often considered works of art due to their minimalist, elegant design. Wabbes has won numerous awards for his work over the course of his career, including the Grand Prix of the Milan Triennale in 1957 and the Brabant Province Design Award in 1973. Today, his creations are highly sought-after by collectors and design enthusiasts the world over.
