After studying visual arts at the École des Beaux-Arts in Marseille, Claude Vassal began his career working for interior designer René Gabriel. He then began designing furniture, and in 1959, with Pierre Paulin and Michel Ducaroy, founded the "Les Trois Petits Cochons" collective, which presented his creations at group exhibitions. In 1967, he set up his own design studio, where he worked on projects for prestigious brands such as Airborne, Habitat and Ligne Roset. He is also known for having designed products for the airline Air France, such as flight attendant uniforms and cabin equipment. Over the course of his career, Claude Vassal has received numerous awards for his designs, including the Grand Prix National de la Création Industrielle in 1994 and the Compasso d'Oro special jury prize in 1995. He was also elected to the Académie des Beaux-Arts in 1997. Claude Vassal has left an indelible mark on the world of design, thanks to his elegant and innovative creations, which have marked their era.
