In 1969, Ullrich joined renowned furniture manufacturer Thonet, where he became head of the design department in 1976. During his tenure at Thonet, Ullrich worked with designers such as Verner Panton and Norman Foster, and contributed to the creation of many iconic products, including the S411 chair and the S5000 chair. Ullrich has also worked for other furniture manufacturers, such as Walter Knoll, and taught industrial design at the University of Wuppertal. During his career, he won numerous awards for his designs, including the prestigious Red Dot Design Award. Klaus Ullrich is considered one of the most important designers of post-war Germany and left a significant mark on the furniture design industry. He passed away in 2017.
