He studied at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, where he was trained in interior architecture. He began his design career in the 1950s, working for the Lumi lighting company. During the 1960s and 1970s, Torlasco worked for a number of Italian design companies, including Stilnovo, Esperia and Reggiani. He is best known for his collaboration with the Lumi lighting company, for whom he designed several iconic luminaires, including the Lumi 56 table lamp and the Lumi 128 suspension lamp. Torlasco's work was often characterized by its minimalist, functional aesthetic, as well as by his use of high-quality materials such as brass and glass. Today, Torlasco's creations are considered outstanding examples of 20th-century Italian design, and are exhibited in design museums around the world.
