They met during the Second World War while both serving in the French Resistance. After the war, they both studied ceramics at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, where they specialized in contemporary ceramics. In 1952, Jacques and Dani set up their own ceramics studio in Cagnes-sur-Mer, in the south of France. Their work was influenced by the organic forms and abstract motifs of the biomorphic movement, as well as by the traditions of Japanese ceramics. Their work was also marked by great technical rigor, with particular attention paid to the quality of glazes and mastery of firing. Over the years, Jacques and Dani Ruelland have developed a unique style that has been hailed by critics and acclaimed by collectors. Their pieces have been shown in numerous exhibitions in France and abroad, and are today considered classics of modern ceramics. Jacques passed away in 2008 at the age of 90, and Dani in 2018 at the age of 94.
