Reenskaug studied sculpture and architecture at the University of Washington before joining the US Army during the Second World War. After the war, he worked for several design firms before founding his own company, Tandem Furniture, in 1952. In addition to the Contour Chair, Reenskaug designed numerous other pieces of furniture and home accessories, all characterized by their simplicity, functionality and timeless elegance. He also taught industrial design at the University of Illinois and Princeton University. Over the years, Reenskaug's creations have been exhibited in museums around the world, and he has received numerous awards for his work, including the prestigious Prix de Rome in 1954. His contribution to the history of modern design is undeniable, and his work continues to influence designers the world over.
