After studying architecture, Carlo Pagani turned his attention to industrial design, working for the famous Italian company Olivetti in the 1950s. He also worked for other major companies, such as Cassina, Molteni and Artemide, creating elegant, functional pieces of furniture. Carlo Pagani was known for his minimalist, uncluttered approach and his judicious use of materials such as wood, metal and glass. His most famous creations include the "Gastone" chair for Cassina and the "Eclisse" lamp for Artemide. Over the years, Carlo Pagani has received numerous awards for his work, including the prestigious Compasso d'Oro in 1955 for his design of a stool for Olivetti. Today, his creations are considered icons of twentieth-century Italian design.
