He began his career as a freelance designer before joining the design studio of Kartell, an Italian furniture company, in 1991. He worked for Kartell for over two decades, becoming one of the company's most influential designers. Laviani is best known for his creations in the lighting field, but he has also designed furniture and decorative objects for many other renowned design companies such as Flos, Foscarini, Moroso and Emmemobili. His creations are characterized by their minimalist, modern design, as well as by the use of innovative materials such as polycarbonate, acrylic glass and resin. He has received numerous awards and distinctions for his creations, including the prestigious Compasso d'Oro in 2001 and 2008. Today, Ferruccio Laviani continues to work as an independent designer in Milan, Italy, and is considered one of the most influential designers of his generation.
