Hosoe went on to work for several design and production companies, including NEC Corporation and IDEO Japan, before founding his own design company, Hosoe Design, in 1980. Since then, he has designed a wide range of products, from consumer electronics to medical devices, decorative objects and furniture. Hosoe is particularly well known for his work on ergonomic office chairs. In 1994, he designed the "Siento" chair for Swiss company Giroflex, which won the prestigious Red Dot Design Award in 1995. He also designed the "Edge" chair for Okamura Corporation in 2008, which won the same award. Hosoe has won numerous other awards throughout his career, including Japan's Good Design Award, Germany's iF Product Design Award and the IDEA Award from the Industrial Designers Society of America. Isao Hosoe's work has been featured in numerous design exhibitions and is part of the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. He is widely recognized as one of Japan's most influential industrial designers.
