Hlava studied at the Glass Art School in Železný Brod, where he learned the traditional techniques of glassblowing and glass engraving. He began his career working for the famous glass manufacturer Moser, where he created hand-blown glass pieces, often decorated with intricate geometric patterns. In the 1950s, Hlava began exploring new glass engraving techniques, using abrasives to create relief patterns on the glass surface. This innovative technique led to the creation of some of his most famous works, such as the "Serious and Playful" series. During the 1960s and 1970s, Hlava continued to experiment with new forms and techniques, creating abstract and expressive works of glass art that have been exhibited worldwide. He also taught at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague and received numerous awards and honors for his work, including the prestigious title of Master of Crafts. Today, Pavel Hlava's works are exhibited in museums and private collections around the world, and he is considered one of the greatest Czech glass artists of all time.
