Born in Hamburg in 1942, Hesterberg studied at the Hamburg College of Fine Arts before working for various design companies. In 1971, he founded his own design company in Hamburg, which quickly made a name for itself in the design world thanks to its innovative creations. Hesterberg was known for his minimalist, functional approach to design. His furniture creations, which include tables, chairs, sofas and beds, are characterized by clean lines and simple geometric shapes. His designs have been shown at design exhibitions in Germany, Europe and the USA. Knut Hesterberg's best-known creations include the "Pinwheel" coffee table (1971) and the "Lotus" chair (1970), both of which have won international design awards. The "Pinwheel" table is an example of Hesterberg's innovative approach to furniture design, with its hexagonal shape allowing different table configurations to be created by combining them. Knut Hesterberg died in 2017 at the age of 75, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the world of design. His creations continue to be appreciated for their modern, timeless aesthetic, as well as for their functionality and durability.
