His cultural enrichment between Denmark and France has enabled him to combine natural and noble materials such as pewter, silver, amber, coral, bris and ivory. His uniquely refined pieces, such as the silver-plated fruit bowl, are still very popular today. Christian Fjerdingstad was born in Denmark in 1891. Following an apprenticeship as a goldsmith, he opened his own workshop. He enlisted in the French Foreign Legion during the First World War, but was demobilized after a wound in 1915. He then moved to Fontenay-aux-Roses in France, where he met Fernand Léger, the famous French decorator and ceramist. Léger encouraged him to take part in the Salon d'Automne in 1921. Fjerdingstad met with great success. Some of his silverware was even acquired by the famous couturier Jacques Doucet. Three years later, he became head of design at Christofle. He produced some of his finest pieces for Christofle.
