Sonia Delaunay was known for her use of color, particularly in her textile and costume designs, as well as her paintings. She also worked in other artistic fields, such as children's book illustration, interior decoration and costume design for ballet and theater. Over the course of her career, Sonia Delaunay took part in numerous exhibitions in France and abroad. In 1964, she was the first woman to receive a retrospective at the Musée du Louvre in Paris. She was also awarded numerous distinctions, including the Légion d'honneur in France and the Ordre du Mérite in Germany. She died in Paris in 1979, aged 94.
