Flexform is a worldwide phenomenon of Italian furniture design established in the 1960s. In 1959, the Galimberti brothers opened a craft workshop called "Flexform di Galimberti". This was soon followed by their first showroom, where the sofas and armchairs on display found their way into elegant buildings in Milan, villas on Lake Como and even the foyer of the Teatro alla Scala in the postwar period. Their children turned the workshop into an industrial establishment and founded it in 1967 as Flexform S.p.A. The astute insights of the family led to the decision to collaborate with some of the most important designers of the time: Joe Colombo, Asnago-Vender, Cini Boeri, Rodolfo Bonetto and many others. During the same period, with an eye toward growth, the company also invested in a talented young architect-designer, Antonio Citterio, in a partnership that has continued uninterrupted for more than forty years. The 1970s brought an important shift in the concept of the company's product line. Production moved increasingly toward original, contemporary designs.
