W-J Kersten studied at the Royal Academy of Art and Design in Den Bosch. His first exhibition was in 1977 in the Moriaan (Gem. Tentoonstellingsdienst, the predecessor of the Stedelijk Museum) in Den Bosch, where he exhibited together with Jan de Bie. Kersten's drawings were awarded in 1980 in Wroclaw, Poland. He exhibited work in the Noordbrabants Museum and Arti Capelli gallery in Den Bosch. Kersten has exhibited at Galerie Asselijn, Gallery Zero, Gallery Erdmann, Gallery van den Berg, Gallery Baks, Gallery de Zaal, Gallery Kokon and Gallery Arti Capelli.
W-J Kersten says about his work: “I try to paint the obvious, but I can't always find it.
I paint regularly but can't say much about it.
I prefer to paint.
Sometimes I paint words”.
