Product description
This hand-woven Oriental rug was made in Pakistan in the 1960s for Ikea. It is traditionally flat woven and dyed in shades of navy blue and beige. It was woven with natural wool and cotton. With proper treatment, the wool has a beautiful sheen. The density of the knots is high, which makes the carpet durable. Nowadays, Bukhara carpets are considered as one of the best carpets made in Pakistan. The carpet is decorated with repetitive geometric patterns. The hand-woven carpets are made using techniques that give the pieces structural integrity. They consist of hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of threads attached to a cotton or wool carpet base. Hand-knotted rugs are made by passing the warp through the weft of the rug several times. These techniques ensure that each part of the rug is an integral part of the rug's structure and less likely to fall apart. The production of rugs in Pakistan is similar to that of India.
This rug is in original vintage condition. It shows signs of age-related wear. Part of the side is frayed. The rug will be professionally cleaned and ready to use.
