He studied at Central St Martins School of Art and has since worked as an artist for over 20 years. Studwell uses the spirit of the 1960s and 1970s, the cult of celebrity and the legacy of Warhol to produce iconic screen prints. His works explore the dark side of fame, nostalgia and Americana-political photographs of famous stars show them at their most vulnerable or at their most defiant. Private moments of icons during screen tests or while reflecting become graphically public, produced in bright and vibrant colors. Studwell's work also traces the legacy of photography, technology and photographers in the 20th century. His work has received appreciation from several superstar art collectors, including Kate Moss, Sheryl Crow and Nile Rogers. Perhaps because his art offers a lucid commentary on the cult of celebrity, following the direct legacy of Andy Warhol and the 1960s pop art movement. Studwell works through the medium of screen printing with the use of bright and vibrant colors and a very demanding level of technical precision. He often uses razor-sharp diamond dust to finish his work. "I feel I am different from many other artists because my work harkens back to times gone by. The golden years of Hollywood, the 1950s and 1960s, have always attracted me. I focus on a period when the word "celebrity" actually meant something. Unlike today, where reality TV or social media puts unknowns in the spotlight." The signature Studwell look is one of classic Hollywood glamour of high quality that is reminiscent of haute couture but eschews transient whimsy. Striking contrasts are made of beauty, fame and stardom with a technicolor exposition of inner vulnerability. Studwell has returned to the past to comment on the present. --- Also check out our other objects under this account --.
