Product description
Exclusive set of two gold bas-reliefs inspired by the iconic facade relief that has graced the entrance to the world-famous Folies Bergère revue theater in Paris since 1925. This impressive meter-high Art Deco-style artwork was designed by renowned French architect and interior designer Maurice Picaud, also known as Pico (1900-1977). Picaud's masterpiece celebrates the essence of the Art Deco movement and captures the lush, exotic atmosphere of Parisian nightlife in the 1920s. The artwork, titled "Serpentine Dancer," depicts the famous dancer Lila Nikolska in her graceful movements. Her nude beauty highlights the seductive and bold performances of the Folies Bergère. The abstract swirls and shapes that surround her enhance the dynamism and energy of her dance, giving this work a timeless appeal. The Folies Bergère revival theater, founded in 1869 as a music hall, had its heyday in the 1890s until World War II. This iconic theater is still in operation today. The set of two gold bas-reliefs consists of one relief in positive and one relief in negative (reverse interpretation). The relief in negative differs from the original Folies Bergère relief in that it is hollowed out at the front, creating a slight bulge at the back. Furthermore, the reverse interpretation differs in that the dancing woman does not kick to the right, as in the original, but to the left. This unique combination of positive and negative creates a fascinating play of light and shadow, perfect for lovers of Art Deco or French art. The two bas-reliefs were crafted by atelier Laurier Design and made after the original relief by Maurice Picaud. Both works of art are in excellent condition and are carefully packaged in custom-made wooden boxes so that they arrive to you in perfect condition. To ensure maximum protection, the panels are individually packed and shipped. Each panel is fully insured against loss or damage in transit and comes with a track & trace code. The panels are sold without frame. Dimensions per piece: 48 x 50 x 3 cm Material: porcelain plaster with gold spray Weight per piece: 6 kg Total weight: 12 kg
