Product description
Tjalf Sparnaay (1954) is a Dutch artist and representative of hyperrealism or, as he himself calls it, megarealism. Sparnaay trained as a sports teacher but taught himself photography and painting in the early 1980s. In those early days, the artist made realistic postcards to sell but soon turned to autonomous painting.
After a visit to a pop-art exhibition in New York and its accompanying hyperrealism, Sparnaay chose his final direction. Fried eggs, salads, hamburgers, lobster and trampled Coca Cola cans, depicted in enormous sizes, become his trademark. In doing so, the artist draws inspiration from the works of 17th century masters such as Vermeer's genre scenes, Rembrandt's chiaroscuro and Willem Kalf's still lifes.
This beautiful offset lithograph is in excellent condition and is hand-signed by the artist.
NOTE: The edition number differs from the photograph. The edition number is 134/150. It is in equally wonderful condition! This work is framed with special glass which has no/little reflection.
