Product description
Pitcher size XXL HT 23 cm ø 17?5 cm depth 20 cm Pyrite stoneware covered with olive green glaze Signature visible in photo 5 Small chips at the base not serious (not visible or almost) visible in photo 6 A rising star, Pierre Digan was born in 1941. After studying at the Beaux-Arts de Beaune between 1956 and 1959, he completed his training at a factory in the Alpes-Maritimes. Between 1960 and 1979, he settled in La Borne, in the Haut-Berry region of France, where he explored the rich meaning of truly popular art. Bathed in diverse cultures and nourished by the precepts revealed by Bernard Leach, Digan wanted to participate in his own way in a revival. Under the name Digan Grès, with the luminous and essential help of his partner at the time, Janet Stedman, he developed a manifest body of work, organized around a wide range of shaped pieces for the table and the home. The shapes are simple. The clay retains traces of the metallic oxides it encloses, which become a very sober speckling, adorned with clouds of brown and red punctuated by deep black grains. Tradition is in the gesture, in the memory, while form and use in the present ensure the coherence and contemporaneity of the whole. This masterly continuity reactivates a vital tradition by giving it a new form.
