Rodrigo Izolag paints poignant situations with which he provokes and endears. Izolag is a mood maker; sometimes with works in which street life is powerfully and aptly portrayed by the artist, other times controversial by works with a critical note against the government or those in power.
Street Artists
After Izolag left Brazil's Escola de Bellas Artes, due to the older generation of teachers' lack of understanding of his vision, he has long been part of a group of well-known Brazilian street artists. While traveling around Brazil, they produce their imposing UrbanArt works in graffiti style. In the most diverse places they manage to surprise the daily passing public; parks, government buildings, bridges and ruins.
Travel as technique
Izolag works with a special technique in which traveling and photographing special situations is the first step. He captures the most beautiful moments which he incorporates into his works of art; playing children, characteristic old people or socially critical subjects. He paints these representations on canvas and then covers them with newspapers, letters and anything else he finds necessary to give the canvas body.
Rodrigo Izolag was a student at the "Escola de Bellas Artes" in Salvador de Bahia in Brazil. Lacking understanding from the old generation of teachers for his vision, he and his girlfriend Ananda Nahu left the art school early. He devoted himself to illustrating magazines such as the Rolling Stone and Metropolis and painting city walls. With this he soon became a household name and his work was used for political campaigns and by social organizations. After several solo and group exhibitions in his own country, the way to the European art market soon followed. Izolag now works with several renowned galleries in the Netherlands, Switzerland and Germany.
With his virtuosity, speed and enormous sense of composition, Rodrigo Izolag knows how to touch the beholder right in the heart!
