Very rare original 1970s Hans Dom van der Laan stool/table. Dom van der Laan Dom Hans van der Laan, thinker, architect, designer The Benedictine monk and architect Hans van der Laan (1904-1991) is a man with a small body of work that is very highly regarded in the architectural world. He designed three monasteries and a residential house and did not draw his first real design until the age of 53, the monastery Sint-Benedictusberg in Vaals, which incidentally is immediately considered his masterpiece. But for most of his life, he spent most of his time thinking about form, proportion and how people experience an architectural space. In the process, he developed the doctrine of plastic number. Dutch Design Dom van der Laan played an important role in the history of Dutch architecture. He proved unreceptive to the architectural zeitgeist of Rietveld and Berlage. He searched for the essence of architecture himself and found an answer. Dom van der Laan belongs to the grand masters like Vitrivius, who succeeded in developing his own theory. In his theory of proportions, the plastic number, a three-dimensional elaboration of the golden section, plays a central role.
