Product description
Designed by the visionary Alfredo Häberli for Quodes, the Pattern bookcase is an iconic work of art that blurs the boundaries of interior design and sculpture. In January 2007, this masterpiece was named "Best Shelving" of the year by Wallpaper Magazine - an honor that perfectly reflects its innovative design and unique aesthetic.
What makes this design special is the fact that only two of these original versions were ever built. We are privileged to offer these two rare examples through Whoppah, an opportunity that rarely comes along for collectors and art lovers. This exclusive version, with its expressive and bold character, offers an unparalleled combination of functionality and visual impact.
Why the original?
Although later versions of Pattern were produced with an aluminum composite material and a back panel, the original version remains a work of art in its own right. This version can be freestanding and has no back panel, taking the original cabinet design to a level of sophistication that cannot be matched. The "original" has an undeniable charm that has stood the test of time, making this cabinet an absolute must-have for any design collector.

Design Philosophy Behind This Design By Alfredo Häberli
Zurich-born Alfredo Häberli has brought together geometric shapes in a startling design, using stacking and variation to create visual patterns that enrich any space. Pattern is not just a bookcase, it is a sculpture that artfully displays books and objects. This piece is a statement, a design that not only functions, but transforms the space.
An Iconic Design In The World Of Art And Design
Pattern is not only found in private collections, but has also taken its place in prominent exhibitions. Among others, it was exhibited at the Museum für Gestaltung in Zurich and at the IMM in Cologne during an exhibition on Interior Trends. The design has captured the imagination of designers, architects and art lovers worldwide and has been frequently published in leading art books and magazines.
Condition and Availability.
The cabinet is heavy and therefore fragile when handled. Therefore, we have kept the cabinet in a wooden export crate and can be viewed up close in our warehouse by appointment.

Image 10: The back with some 'chipped' spots, barely visible from some distance.
The cabinet has some light damage on the back, which is only visible when used freestanding. These can be easily retouched. In addition, there are minimal discolorations due to the use of glue, which is a natural consequence of the complex craftsmanship behind this work of art. These small details do not detract from the special look of the cabinet, which makes a true statement in any room.
