Renée de Vries
Den Haag, Netherlands
Product description
'Still an Oyster's Biography,' even though it was a glass 'pearl' that Vermeer painted. Catching her eyes, catching her gaze, that was what I was all about. And putting her 'differently on canvas', different style and color. With many thanks to the unsurpassable master Vermeer, of course!
Renée de Vries has been drawing and painting since childhood, already inspired by her uncle, the Limburg visual artist Ru de Vries. She briefly attended the Rietveld Academy, but learned most from the Amstelveen artist Dirk Annokkee with whom she was a '1 on 1' apprentice atelier from 1983-1987. Her work has no fixed style, but does have its own style. Colorful work, but also work in black/white/gray, blue tones. Figurative/realistic, but also often abstracted, letting reality loose on the canvas. After 23 years of running three galleries cum studio she moved to The Hague in 2022 and now has her studio at home.
