About the photographer:
Mario Novais was a Portuguese photographer, born June 29, 1926 in Lisbon and died October 29, 1990. Best known for his documentary photography, he is considered one of the most important Portuguese photojournalists of the 20th century.
Novais began his career as a photojournalist in the 1940s and worked for several Portuguese newspapers and magazines, including "Diário Popular" and "O Século Ilustrado." His work focused mainly on capturing daily life, social issues and cultural events in Portugal.
