Marcel was educated at the HKU in Utrecht. Marcel creates abstract expressionist paintings on canvas or paper with acrylic, water, and oil paint. Statement: 'As a painter, you can talk through your paintings. You can convey a story or generate emotions through images. Paint, brushes and canvas, among other things, are just tools for me to generate these emotions or stories and bring them to life. When I paint, my mind directs these tools to the end result, so to speak. The moment I am in a painting "flow," I slowly build up this emotion with the story, and project it onto the canvas or other medium. My brain at that moment is allowing something to convey what is on my mind. Of course, I begin a painting with a certain thought, but it may well change through the process into something unexpected that will (strongly) take over. I will always embrace that process and let it happen. The final image I put down will not be an accurate figurative construction of this emotion or that story, but rather an abstract representation of it. It will have to do with something that concerns me at that moment, at that time, in that period of time. It will be like a dream translated into paint on canvas with brushes and other tools. I am endlessly fascinated by the similarity between macro-, and microstructures in nature and how these can also correspond to unconsciously created structures by man. Here, too, man is part of nature. If we as humans become more aware that we are nature, I hope that we, as 'fellow human beings' will also treat it with more respect. I would like these emotions to be expressed in happy and or aesthetically beautiful paintings. I am a positive person and the result should be enjoyed purely.
