Maarten Antonie van Dreven was born on July 12, 1941 in Sneek and died on February 7, 2001 in The Hague. Studied at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague with Co Westerik, among others. Together with the young artists he got to know through the academy, Pat Andrea, Peter Blokhuis, Walter Nobbe and Jurjen de Haan, he is considered one of the "New Realists" in The Hague.
Maarten van Dreven and his friend Jurjen de Haan were the representatives of photorealism (hyperrealism). Maarten van Dreven, like Jurjen de Haan, preferred to work in large format. His background as a fashion designer is clearly evident.
Won the Jacob Hartog Prize in 1978 with the painting Mister Spaceman 2.
