Product description
Beautiful screen print, not framed
subjects that Kees Salentijn (1947) uses for his drawings and paintings are versatile, but always Mediterranean in nature and viewed from the perspective of Spanish culture and tradition. For example, the dance, the crowded beaches, parades, ladies strolling along the boulevard, the landscape, the eating habits and the traditional festivals of Spain are still common themes in his work.
Based on sketches and drawings he makes during his travels in Iberica, he usually starts by coming up with a title for an upcoming painting, always in Spanish. In addition to lines, Salentijn also uses abstracted surfaces to put together figures and their surroundings, almost like a construction worker. Bunches of angular or round shapes, with patterns and decorations drawn in them, represent the garments with which he constructs men, women or children. Patterned areas, blocks of color and quick splashes of paint form the foreground and background, depicting a flower garden, sidewalk or wallpaper, clouds or simply the sky.
Salentijn approaches his still lifes in a similar way. He works with pen, pencil and brush, but also gouaches, acrylic paint, collages or a combination of all of these.
