Product description
The iconic Petala coffee table was designed by Jorge Zalszupin in 1959 and produced by his company, L'atelier. It is made from solid exotic cocobolo wood and laminated in the shape of petals. Zalszupin focused not only on streamlining the design, but above all on acquiring and using new technologies and materials to enable mass production. The emphasis on new technologies and materials paved the way for the aesthetic freedom he desired, and laminated solid wood enabled the designer to create the desired curves without having to resort to time-consuming and costly manual processes. Modern shapes, clean lines, simplicity and sensuality are the hallmarks of most of his creations. The table is available in three versions, composed of laminated wooden lozenges on a steel frame. The version presented in this offer is in cocobolo wood, and in separate versions in rosewood and exotic pau ferro. The pieces are composed of eight lozenges and are in very good restored condition. The original L'atelier label has been preserved on the underside of the tabletop. Cocobolo is an exotic wood native to Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica and Nicaragua, highly prized for its diverse uses. It is often chosen for the production of customized billiard cues, fine furniture, inlays and musical instruments. It is characterized by great durability and strength, with a delicate texture or unique pattern. Its beautiful color, ranging from dark red to reddish brown, combined with its irregular grain, gives it a unique appearance. Cocobolo is also appreciated for its fantastic performance properties, making it an ideal material for turning and sculpting.
