A beautiful and rare set of 7 kokeshi dolls made by kokeshi master Tomio Sato, the son of master craftsman Bunkei Sato of the Tohkamata school. These dolls are typical kokeshi dolls in Toggata style from the Sendai region. Showa Period (1926-1989) Specific areas have different types of kokeshi, they can be roughly divided into 11 different types, each with a distinctive shape or style. These dolls are very popular with collectors, also they are said to bring good luck which makes them extra popular! Very nice objects to decorate a children's room or living room with. What are kokeshi dolls anyway? Kokeshi originate from Japan and they are simple wooden dolls without arms or legs that have been made as toys for children for over 150 years. They are hand-turned from wood and have a simple body and head with a few thin painted lines to define the face. The body often has flowers and ring designs. This beautiful collection is in good vintage condition, some have faded drawings on the body, a few others have stains and superficial scratches, but they still look great, check the photos for more details! Dimensions: The largest doll is 30cm tall, the others range between 28 and 12cm. Weight: 1.436kg together.
