Harry Buyck was a Belgian artist born in Antwerp in 1928 who died in Merksem in 2017. He was a painter and draughtsman. Largely self-taught, but did take classes at the Academy in Ghent under W. Sybrands. Finds his inspiration in his fellow man, whom he catches at home, on the beach or in the cafe, and also paints landscapes, beach scenes, nudes, mother and child compositions. Expressionist design. From the press: "H.B. seeks above all the atmosphere of his subjects, albeit keeping far from ordinary themes, but compositions with figures from everyday life are his preference" and "H.B.'s paintings continue the atmosphere of the delightful intimacy of the life of the working-class man." Prize Jozef Muls, prize Guillaume Campo, first prize Noorderkempen and first prize of La Palette Martegale in France. Directed the artist cafe Den Draak in Ghent (1956-1959), was behind the organization of a large number of artistic events in Flanders and supported a whole series of debutant or already established artists.
