Design
A playful and modern design that is typical of De Stijl and Rietveld. A similar copy is in the Centraal Museum Utrecht.
A very unique object and an international design icon. Beautiful in its thoughtful simplicity.
Used with this asymmetrical piece of furniture
Rietveld used the color to accentuate the independence of the surfaces. Not only did each element have its own shape and colour, the ends of the planks also have a contrasting colour.
This piece of furniture was designed as a side table for the divan that stood on the top floor of the Rietveld Schröder House in the first years, hence the name. The divan table and the Berlin chair can be seen as Rietveld's essential period furniture. Asymmetrical designs were considered extremely modern by the artists involved in De Stijl.
