Product description
This terracotta plaque is beautifully enameled in bright colors on a copper-tinted background. It is a representation of the Virgin and Child, also called Our Lady of Vladimir by the Orthodox. This work was created by artist Michel Folscheid (1919-2014) in his troglodytic workshop "Emaux de Saint Michel du roc". Michel Folscheid, a highly talented ceramist and enameller, was one of France's leading icon specialists from the 1950s onwards, creating the "Stations of the Cross" that adorn churches such as Rochecorbon and Melun, among others. This icon dates from the 60s or 70s. The back is decorated with a relief pattern painted black. The plaque has two holes at the top and a string for hanging on the wall. This icon is in very good condition, with no cracks or chips, perhaps just slight abrasions of the black tint on the back or edges, but it seems to me to be rather original. It measures 20 cm by 13.5 cm, with a thickness of 2 cm. It's relatively heavy, around 750g.
