Product description
With great finesse and good quality, this solid bronze statue is really superb. This "the discus thrower", generally attributed to the artist Myron, is one of the most famous statues of antiquity. It represents an athlete throwing the discus. Myron was famous for his depictions of athletes, which explains the attribution. In addition, this work is mentioned by Pliny the Elder in his Natural History, where the author gives the list of works produced by Myron, representative of the first classicism. Many more or less successful replicas have been produced over the centuries. The one we offer is in bronze with a verdigris patina and has some traces of oxidation which are an integral part of its charm. Dating from around the 50s / 60s, it must have had several owners. When we found it, it was enthroned outside on a stone plinth. Time has therefore had its effect on this beautiful statue which has small snags. There is a small hole on one thigh and a larger one on an arm. Defects that are immediately forgotten when the statue is in position. Large in size, it will have pride of place in your decoration and will never cease to attract the eye. Dimensions: Height 67cm Base diameter 36cm Max width 40cm
