Black cantilever chair by Mart Stam
This iconic Bauhaus cantilever chair is made of chrome-plated tubular steel with black leather seats, backrests and armrests that are in almost pristine condition. The chairs in this style were designed by Mart Stam in 1927 and were the first cantilever chairs in furniture history. From 1925, Stam experimented with gas tubes connected with flanges and developed the concept of cantilever chairs that no longer stood on four legs - a construction principle that marked a turning point in the history of modern furniture design.
The tubular frame made of black steel is shaped into an innovative cantilever form. The cantilever chair acts like a spring, offering flexibility and comfort through the quilted leather seats and backrests.
