Biography Verstijnen's artistic career began in his early years. Over time, he developed his own methods and techniques and engaged in bold experimentation. A variety of materials were used including corrugated cardboard, jute, plastic and textured materials. The use of these materials helped create characteristic works. His recent paintings are characterized by a powerful handwriting and a strong use of color. This creates stable compositions, not devoid of humor. Ad wants to move toward the individual, the spontaneous. The childhood drawings of his children, Maaike and Edgar, were often a source of inspiration. The optimism in them appealed to him. He began to see and appreciate this more and more. The resulting style clearly shows kinship with the bright colors and spontaneous expression of the international Cobra group. Ad Verstijnen paints the immediate environment of the child: child with cat, bicycle, bird, and ball. All these images symbolize freedom and have nothing to do with the norms and rules of adult society. Thus the artist consciously detaches himself from the norms learned at the academy. Recently, Ad Verstijnen has also been making more and more spatial work. The artist describes his work with the following words: Always the other way. Swinging, full of fun, back and forth between fantasy and reality. Optimism shuffles me forward in an adventure of creativity, avoiding achievements as much as possible. Most of the time I start from nothing. Sometimes a child's drawing at other times a vintage car or some form of activity takes center stage. I want to explore groundbreaking values, to make striking work, in such a way that, above all, I attract the wonder and attention of myself. What I do has no grip. Is it the sense of nonsense? In any case, the work will make sense if it fits within my swag. It will have to reflect a bright look, fierce dynamics, bright colors and a kind of spaciousness Always engaging with all intention and yet distancing myself again. The struggle will remain? Ad Verstijnen The paintings and sculptures of Ad Verstijnen are in many collections. Private individuals, companies, the government and museums purchased his work. Hospital Delfzijl, Joint General Practitioners Service Nijmegen, Elkerliek Hospital Helmond, Waterboard the Aa, Legal Aid Board Den Bosch, Rabobank various places in the Netherlands, Municipality Landerd, Boxtel, Housing Association Joseph, etc. His work can be seen in numerous places including the Lower House, Noordeinde Palace, Ministry of Education in The Hague.
