Product description
Gorgeous and rare set of eight hardwood "primitive rawhide chairs." Each chair is a unique piece of artisan craftsmanship, with organic, irregularly shaped woodwork, characteristic ladder-back, and seat of double braided strips of untanned hide (rawhide). Very characterful chairs with a tough, rustic yet elegant look! This type of chair is also known as "arts and crafts Shaker chairs," after the simple, artisan style of the 19th century Protestant Shaker community in America, which expressed the Shaker principles of honesty, utility, and simplicity. This set is more recent, circa 2000, and made in Brazil of high-quality hardwood and untanned cowhide, a beautifully durable material. Beautifully crafted wood joints and unique shape details. Dimensions: Height 94 Seat height 45 Width 44 Depth 44 €170 per two, €595 for the whole set of 8
The set is in good and solid condition, with some signs of use. There are old traces of wood fretting, but guaranteed to have been inactive for a long time, some filled, and appropriate to the rustic character of the chairs (see photos).
From one chair, three rawhide strips are broken and glued in place. The seat is still very strong. This eighth chair is free with purchase of the entire set.
