Neither the Bouroullec brothers nor the manufacturer Vitra had any idea that it would take four years from the first design to the industrial production of the Vegetal Chair. This was because the organic structure of the plastic chair with its branch-like struts was difficult to realize. Design 2004 - 2008 Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec took natural vegetation as a model for the long-term development of the Vegetal chair. They succeeded in combining this formal idea with the requirements of comfort and stability. Vegetal can be used indoors and outdoors, it is available in different colors and up to three chairs can be stacked on top of each other. Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec's interest in organic forms was already evident in Algues, which they designed for Vitra in 2004. Based on this experience, the two brothers developed Vegetal with Vitra in a four-year process. Countless models were made and the technical possibilities of the injection molding process were fully exploited. The aim was to create the impression of a natural vegetation structure with the necessary stability and to achieve good seating comfort: The flat struts interweave and branch out asymmetrically on three levels to form a seat shell that forms an irregular circle and is supported by four legs that look like they have grown naturally. Vegetal is available in six unusual colors for plastic chairs, which emphasize the basic idea of reproducing natural structures. It is suitable for indoor and outdoor use and can be stacked up to three high, allowing flexible use in larger numbers. The chair is made from 100% recyclable polyamide using a particularly energy-efficient process. Material description Seat and base: through-dyed polyamide. Stackable four-legged base, with glides for carpeted floors or felt glides for hard floors. Vegetal can be stacked up to 3 chairs on the floor and is suitable for outdoor use. Note: Special additives slow down the fading of colors due to UV radiation. If the chair is exposed to the sun for a longer period of time, the color may still change. We recommend not exposing the chair to the sun for longer than necessary
